Welcoming Address from the President of JSSM


Japanese Society of Soil Microbiology (JSSM) is an academic organization of soil microbiologists and plant pathologists to establish and promote modern research linkages, theories and agriculture techniques in the fields of Soil Microbiology.  Since the Society was founded in 1954 as eSoil Microbiology Meetingf, Prof. Makoto Kimura (ex-President) organized 50th Anniversary Celebration Symposium in Tsukuba in 2004.

Our Society joined Association of Japanese Agricultural Scientific Societies in 2004, and we proud that ex-Presidents, Profs. Tsutomu Hattori, Akira Ogoshi, and Makoto Kimura awarded by the Association.

Our research targets are expanding and more diversified according to the requirements by the public and agriculture to make harmony between production and environments.  International and domestic relations are also important and emphasized, such as links to the national and international societies.  Our Society is a member of International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) via the Science Council of Japan.  

Our activities are organizing annual scientific meeting, symposium, supporting education in primary schools and so on, and publishing society journal "TSUCHI TO BISEIBUTSU", and also gMicrobes and Environments (M&E)h jointly with Japanese Society of Microbial Ecology.
